Principles for Catholic Social Action
Opportunities:
• SOCIAL ACTION COMMITTEE: Meet the third Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. to coordinate, plan and promote ministries that help others in the parish and throughout the world. Contact: Marty Rauen
• HABITAT FOR HUMANITY: Join with members of other local churches to construct a home for a family in need of assistance. Volunteers typically work one Saturday a month from Spring through Fall. Contact: Mark Roberto
• TENDER MERCIES MEAL TEAMS: Prepare and serve dinner monthly for residents of Over-the-Rhine who are homeless and/or with history of emotional and/or mental disabilities. Contact: Barb Kraemer
• PARISH FOOD DRIVE (April): Promote annual parish food collection to support Inter Parish Ministry food pantry, which helps local families. Collection is conducted each Spring. Contact: Anne Roberto
• FAIR TRADE COFFEE AND CHOCOLATE: Sell fair trade goods after weekend Masses one Sunday per month. This sale supports farmers in developing countries to earn a decent living. Contact: Annie Kallaher
• BREAD FOR THE WORLD: Support Catholic Social Teaching through correspondence with government officials in Washington, D.C. This helps promote parish awareness of social issues. Contact: Ted McCormick
• TUTORING AT LOCAL SCHOOL: Work weekly with a grade school aged child to help improve his/her academic success. This ministry requires a weekly commitment of time during the school year. Contact: Sheila Becker
• CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE (November/December): Help distribute tags and collect parishioners’ gifts for those in need each Christmas season. Help deliver the gifts to local charities. Contact: Anne Roberto
• BACKPACK COLLECTION (July): Help promote and collect needed school items for children in our community. Help is also needed to sort and deliver collected items. Contact: Karin Sheer
• FISHES AND LOAVES: Help provide meals for SJF Parish members who are ill. Contact: Barb Kraemer
